OSAA Foundation Winter Endowment Games – Schools wanting to schedule Winter Endowment Games are reminded to submit your application to the OSAA.  Winter Endowment Games may be held in basketball, swimming and wrestling and may take place between November 28 and December 24.  Contact Peter Weber with questions.

Oregon Wrestling Weight Monitoring Program Information – Several memos have been posted to the OWWMP webpage. Information related to initial assessments to set a minimum wrestling weight class, scale error allowances, and growth allowance policy.  All wrestling coaches should review this information prior to participating in initial assessments.  Contact Brad Garrett with questions.

Winter Financial Assistance Application - Oregon Sports Authority has partnered with the OSAA to provide financial assistance dollars again this season. Please be reminded that any student who received assistance in the Fall is not eligible for additional assistance this year. Winter applications are due by December 4. Winter AD Checklist - Using input from around the state, the OSAA staff has compiled the following list of items as reminders for all Athletic Directors. Included are deadlines and links to where this information can be found on the OSAA website. Contact Peter Weber with questions.

OSAA Tickets Online - Fans are now able to purchase tickets to OSAA State Championship final sites online. Transactions will be handled through PayPal, although you do not need a PayPal account to purchase tickets. Tickets will be placed at the event "Will Call" window by last name on the day of the event. Contact Kristie Patterson with questions.

Oregon Golf Association Rules Presentations - The Oregon Golf Association (OGA) has made themselves available to put on Rules of Golf presentations for schools and leagues around the state. Contact information to schedule a rules presentation in your area is included in this memo.  Please pass this on to your golf coaches.

REMINDERS

Athletic Directors of schools with teams in the playoffs are reminded to please contact the OSAA with your game times as soon as possible so we can update the brackets and assign officials.

Playoff Field Rental Requests - The OSAA Executive Board has determined that the expense for playoff contest field rental shall be incurred by the host school unless the host school field is deemed unplayable after consultation with the OSAA office. Consequently, all schools that host OSAA playoff events are expected to host those events at their regular season site or pay any facility rental costs if they wish to move the contest. Cooperative Sponsorships - If you are planning on co-oping in a winter activity, please check the districts to make sure your co-op is listed. If your co-op is not listed please contact Marla Starkman to check the status.

Classification and Districting Committee October 20 Update – The Committee wants schools to know that the 2007-08 ADM figures are now posted on the home page of the OSAA website under OSAA Headlines.  The Committee would like to hear from schools that plan on playing up in the next time block by November 5.  The Committee’s next meeting will be Monday, November 17 at the OSAA office in Wilsonville at 9 a.m.  Contact Mike Wallmark or Peter Weber with questions.

Delegate Assembly October 20 Meeting Summary - The summary of the first Delegate Assembly meeting of the school year is now available. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Fall Results - Results are in for the football, volleyball, soccer (boys and girls), and cross country (boys and girls) teams that were eligible in the Fall. The OSAA is continuing to list all teams with a 3.00 or higher GPA as well. Congratulations to all schools that participated in this student recognition program. Winter Plans, Brackets and Districts - Updated information for the 2008-09 school year is now available for Basketball , Swimming and Wrestling . Please review this information with all necessary personnel in your school/district.

Officials Fee Review Committee - Conducted its first meeting on October 6, 2008 at the OSAA Office in Wilsonville. An update on the progress of the committee is now posted. Contact Brad Garrett with questions.

Coaches that attend these one-day clinics will satisfy the Board Policy requiring coaches who are solely responsible for coaching the team at any time to attend a Cheer Safety Clinic by November 1. REMINDERS

OSAA staff members have received inquires regarding the eligibility status of students who are enrolled in Oregon Connections Academy (ORCA). ORCA is a non-member charter school, therefore a student may represent his/her resident public school as specified by Rule 8.5.1 (b) in the OSAA Handbook. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

District Athletic Committees are reminded to forward copies of all committee decisions and rationale for those decisions to the OSAA. This should include all of the materials received as part of the hardship request. Please fax the information to Tom Welter's attention at 503-682-0960.

2009 Fall Pre-Selection Survey (Deadline - October 9) - The Fall Preselection Survey is available in the SchoolNet section of the OSAA website. The survey allows you to declare which sports your school will offer during the 2009 Fall season next school year. Survey responses will be used to create districts for the 2009 Fall season. 2009 NFHS Participation Survey (Deadline - October 9) - All schools are required to complete the NFHS Participation survey regarding student participation in Fall activities. Seasonal state championship reimbursement will be sent in December only to those schools that have completed the survey. Contact Kyle Stanfield with questions.

Oregon Wrestling Weight Monitoring Program Information (OWWMP) - Revised and updated information for the 2008-09 OWWMP is now available. Included are BIA assessment supplies ordering options, program memos and announcements, school/coach resources, hydration and nutrition information and an archive of the program data. Please get this information to your wrestling coaches and any other necessary personnel in your school community. Contact Brad Garrett with questions.

Wrestling BIA Assessor Certification Workshops - The Oregon Wrestling Weight Monitoring Program requires that individuals must complete an OSAA BIA Certification Workshop prior to performing assessments on wrestling during the 2008-09 season. REMINDERS

As of today (October 1), member schools are no longer required to track heat and humidity for the purposes of the Fall Sports Practice Model for this school year. Schools must still limit practice to a maximum of five hours per day and are encouraged to allow for water breaks and general acclimatization to hot and / or humid weather.

The OSAA is pleased to announce that a new national magazine published by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Beginning with the September, 2008 issue, High School Today will be mailed to the principal, and athletic director at every high school in the country, and to the superintendent and school board chair of every school district at no cost. This new publication will feature key messages and information on important topics related to high school sports and activities. It will also promote the mission and core values of education-based athletics and activity programs in our schools. Please take the time to read this new publication and share it with the appropriate people on your staff.

Subway Team Meal Flyer - The OSAA has partnered with Subway Restaurants to offer a 10% discount on team orders for sandwich platters, giant subs and box lunches. Download this flyer for use by your teams when ordering any of these products from a participating Subway restaurant. The second page of the flyer lists the participating restaurants.

OCCA Fall One-Day Clinics - Cheerleading coaches and cheerleaders are welcome to attend the OCCA Fall One-Day Clinics in October. The clinics will take place at Hermiston HS (Oct. 4), South Umpqua HS (Oct. 4) and Jesuit HS (Oct. 25). Coaches that attend these one-day clinics will satisfy the Board Policy requiring coaches who are solely responsible for coaching the team at any time to attend a Cheer Safety Clinic by November 1. OSAA Rule Change Regarding Music - Please remind music (band, orchestra, choir) teachers who take their groups to competitions that the OSAA Delegate Assembly voted to amend the OSAA Constitution to place participants in Music under the same Individual Eligibility Rules as those that have previously applied in athletics beginning in the Fall of 2008. Fall Administrator Workshop / Cheer Safety Clinic - Tuesday, September 16th, is the last opportunity to fulfill the OSAA requirement of attending a Fall Administrator Workshop. A live workshop will be held at the OSAA Office in Wilsonville from 9:30 a.m. - noon, and the Last Chance Webcast will be held from 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. Click here to see the 52 school that have yet to attend a workshop. School Information Form - Deadline September 5 - The School Information Form is now available for use. This required form, located in the SchoolNet section of the OSAA website, includes contact and personnel information regarding your school for the OSAA database. ALL SCHOOLS MUST COMPLETE THIS FORM EVEN IF NO PERSONNEL CHANGES OCCURED AT THE SCHOOL DURING THE PAST SCHOOL YEAR. Passwords were printed on the mailing label of the packets distributed at the Administrator Workshops. Contact Marla Starkman with questions.

Fall Plans, Brackets and Districts - Updated information for the 2008-09 school year is now available on the OSAA website for Cross Country , Football , Soccer and Volleyball . Please review this information with all necessary personnel in your school/district. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

Proposed Golf and Tennis Districts are now available. We are requesting that each school carefully study their placements and notify Kyle Stanfield as soon as possible of any errors, omissions, proposed alternative placements or co-op designations. The Executive Board will adopt the Special Athletic District Placements for Golf and Tennis at the September 8, 2008 Executive Board Meeting

The 2008-09 OSAA Handbook and Forms have been updated and posted to the website. Once again, the OSAA will not be sending printed copies or CDs to schools. The Handbook is searchable on the website and can also be downloaded as a PDF file to your computer. Schools can print their own copies of the Handbook using the PDF version (124 pages). 08-09 NFHS Rules Books Order Form - If you have not ordered your 08-09 NFHS Rule Books for the upcoming year please do so as soon as possible. Each school will receive one rule book for each OSAA-sanctioned activity they are registered in that has a rule book. These complimentary rule books should not be included in any other rule book orders placed for the 2008-09 school year. Contact Amerilyn Rivett with questions.

NFHS Soccer Shin Guard Safety Standards - In 2006, the NFHS soccer rules committee adopted a requirement that will go into effect this school year that shin guards meet certain safety standards. This is a safety issue that also has potential liability implications. Please review the following memo from the NFHS with your soccer coaching staff. Contact Mike Wallmark with questions.

2008 Volleyball Reminders - This memo from Cindy Simmons outlines several key reminders for volleyball programs as the 2008 season begins. Wall Calendars - 2008-09 OSAA Wall Calendars were mailed late last week to all member school athletic directors.
