REMINDERS
Member School Discount Ticket Order Form - This form is to be used only by member schools for purchasing discount tickets to OSAA State Championship events, first round through final sites. Note that payment must accompany all orders. Contact Amerilyn Rivett with questions.

Athletic Directors of schools with teams in the playoffs are reminded to please contact the OSAA with your game times as soon as possible so we can update the brackets and assign officials.

TIME SENSITIVE
2010-2014 Classification and Districting Approved Alignment - The Executive Board and Delegate Assembly voted to approve the Classification and Districting Committee's Final Recommendation without any changes. The approved alignment will go into effect next Fall for the 2010-2014 time block. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Fall Results - Results are in for the football, volleyball, soccer (boys and girls), and cross country (boys and girls) teams that were eligible in the Fall. OSAA Policy on H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu)  – The OSAA has received several inquires related to the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) and its potential impact on upcoming OSAA State Championships. Please view the attached memo from OSAA Executive Director Tom Welter that describes the adopted Executive Board policy.

Winter Endowment Game Extension - In response to inquiries, the final date for winter endowment games has been extended through January 2, 2010 because of the late first contest date of winter activities. Contact Kyle Stanfield with questions.

REMINDERS
Officials Fee Review Committee Update – This update is posted to the Committees page and details the Committees final recommendation regarding tournament fees in Volleyball and Wrestling and standardized Jamboree fees in all sports.  This final recommendation will be presented to the OSAA Delegate Assembly on Oct 26.  Contact Brad Garrett with correspondence and questions.

As of today (October 8), member schools are no longer required to track heat and humidity for the purposes of the Fall Sports Practice Model for this school year. Schools must still limit practice to a maximum of five hours per day and are encouraged to allow for water breaks and general acclimatization to hot and / or humid weather.

Cheerleading Safety Clinic Deadline Reminder - OSAA Board Policy #7 "Cheerleading Safety Clinics" requires any cheerleading coach who is solely responsible for coaching the team at any time to attend an OSAA Cheerleading Safety Clinic by November 1 of the year in which that person serves as a coach. If a cheerleading coach has not attended a clinic by November 1, the squad of that coach is prohibited from performing partner stunts or tumbling. The updated list of those coaches who have attended cheer clinics thus far this year is posted on the Cheer page of the OSAA website. Any emergency exception must be authorized in writing by the OSAA. Contact Mike Wallmark with questions.

The FREE Winter sports rule books will be mailed out soon.  Each school will receive one rule book for each Winter OSAA-sanctioned activity they are registered in that has a rule book. The rule books that have been ordered by the schools will be mailed the week of October 26. Contact Amerilyn Rivett with questions.

Delegate Assembly October 26 Meeting Agenda & Caucus Items - The agenda and caucus items for the first Delegate Assembly meeting of the year are now posted. Please discuss these three items within your league and make sure your Delegate Assembly representative is aware of any feedback prior to the meeting on October 26. State Championship Committee Update – The update is posted from the State Championship Committee preliminary meeting. The update outlines the adopted dates on which public testimony will be taken and process to submit proposals. Classification & Districting Committee September 28 Meeting Update and Final Recommendation - This September 28 meeting update includes the Final Recommendation of the Committee.  The OSAA Executive Board and Delegate Assembly will take action on the Final Recommendation on October 26 at a public meeting to be held at the DoubleTree-Lloyd Center in Portland.  Please contact Mike Wallmark or Peter Weber with questions.

Wrestling BIA Initial Certification Workshops   - The OSAA will conduct an BIA Initial Certification Workshop on Saturday, Oct 17, 2009 from 1-5pm at the OSAA Office in Wilsonville.  This is a required workshop for any person who wants to perform BIA Assessments on wrestlers for the 2009-10 school year.  The cost of the workshop is $35 and pre-registration is required.  Contact Brad Garrett via email at bradg@osaa.org or 503-682-6722 ext 229 for more information.

2009-10 OSAA Calendar Changes - Two changes have been approved by the OSAA Executive Board to the OSAA Calendar for the upcoming year. The Swimming State Championship will be moved to a two day event (Feb. 19-20) and all Dance & Drill Championships will be held at Memorial Coliseum (March 17-20). REMINDERS
Board Policy #70 Modifications to Address Conflicts with Religious Beliefs - In order to provide adequate time to plan for and provide modifications to championship events that are required to address conflicts with a student's religious beliefs, schools shall notify OSAA of the possible conflicts on or before October 1 for fall championship. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

OCCA Fall One-Day Clinics - Cheerleading coaches and cheerleaders are welcome to attend the OCCA Fall One-Day Clinics in October. Coaches that attend these one-day clinics will satisfy the Board Policy requiring coaches who are solely responsible for coaching the team at any time to attend a Cheer Safety Clinic by November 1. Competitive Cheer/Dance Coach Certification - OSAA regulations require that coaches of competitive cheer and dance programs, including volunteer coaches, must be certified through the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course.  A competitive cheer or dance program is one in which the squad or team attends cheer or dance competitions.   Any persons (including choreographers, tumbling coaches, etc.) who work with a competitive cheer or dance team more than three times per season are considered to be coaches and must be certified.  Certification is not required of coaches of cheer or dance teams that serve in a support capacity only.  Contact Mike Wallmark with questions.

Executive Board September 14 - Meeting Agenda   - The first Executive Board meeting of the year will take place on September 14 at the OSAA office in Wilsonville. Agenda items include: Adoption of the 2009-10 Handbook, Adoption of 2009-10 Playoff Revenue Distribution Formula, Appointment of the State Championship Committee, and several proposals to amend the OSAA Constitution. Anabolic Steroid & Performance-Enhancing Substances Training - The Department of Education (ODE), as required by ORS 342.726, has worked with voluntary organizations and individuals to develop and implement a training to identify the components of anabolic steroid abuse and prevention strategies for the use of performance-enhancing substances. Training is required once every four years. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

Coach Certification Requirement - A reminder that all coaches (head coaches, assistant coaches, and volunteer coaches) must be certified through the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course prior to assuming coaching duties. A temporary exemption for new hires, etc. can be obtained through Tom Welter. Follow the link to look up your certified coaches.

TIME SENSITIVE

Fall Sports Practice Model - The OSAA Fall Sports Practice Model is required for all OSAA member schools. Schools can review the practice model by following the link listed above. Access the OSAA Heat Index Calculator for up to the minute weather information for your area. Record your heat index information using a separate sheet for all fall sports by downloading the OSAA Heat Index Record Sheet . This form must be completed and a copy maintained at the school for inspection at the request of the OSAA. Contact Brad Garrett with questions.

REMINDERS
Fall Plans, Brackets and Districts - Updated information for the 2009-10 school year is now available on the OSAA website for Cross Country, Football, Soccer and Volleyball. Please review this information with all necessary personnel in your school/district. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

The 2009-10 OSAA Handbook and Forms have been updated and posted to the website. Once again, the OSAA will not be sending printed copies or CDs to schools. The Handbook is searchable on the website and can also be downloaded as a PDF file to your computer. Schools can print their own copies of the Handbook using the PDF version (119 pages). TIME SENSITIVE
Fall OSAA Administrator Workshops - The OSAA will be presenting 11 workshops to familiarize representatives from member schools with the services, policies, procedures, rules and interpretations of the Association in August and September of 2009. These workshops are particularly helpful for athletic directors to review new rules, policies and interpretations of the OSAA, and to have questions or concerns clarified by the OSAA staff. Each member school shall ensure that at least one representative participate in one of the annual Administrator Workshops presented by OSAA staff. Contact Kyle Stanfield with questions.

Cheerleading Safety Workshops - A list of dates and locations of Cheerleading Safety Clinics that satisfy the yearly coach attendance requirements of OSAA Board Policy #7 "Cheerleading Safety Clinics" is now posted. Reminder: If a cheer coach fails to attend an OSAA Cheerleading Safety Clinic by November 1, the squad of the non-attending coach shall be prohibited from performing partner stunts or tumbling until the coach has attended a clinic. 2009-10 Test Dates Memo - This information outlines the 2009-10 National Testing Dates for SAT, ACT, IB, and AP testing. Principals, athletic directors, and counselors are asked to advise students of these testing dates. Your students should be aware of conflicting OSAA State Championship dates and are encouraged to schedule their respective test date around state championship events in which they participate. PROPOSED Spring 2010 Special Athletic Districts - Using the information provided to us by schools about sports in which they will be participating next Spring, we have created the PROPOSED Spring 2010 Special Athletic Districts. We are requesting that each school carefully study their placements and notify Kyle Stanfield as soon as possible of any errors, omissions, proposed alternative placements or co-op designations. The Executive Board will adopt the Special Athletic District Placements for Spring 2010 at its September 14, 2009 meeting.
