REMINDERS

OSAA Rule Change Regarding Music - Please remind music (band, orchestra, choir) teachers who take their groups to competitions that the OSAA Delegate Assembly voted to amend the OSAA Constitution to place participants in Music under the same Individual Eligibility Rules as those that have previously applied in athletics beginning in the Fall of 2008. Fall Administrator Workshop / Cheer Safety Clinic - Tuesday, September 16th, is the last opportunity to fulfill the OSAA requirement of attending a Fall Administrator Workshop. A live workshop will be held at the OSAA Office in Wilsonville from 9:30 a.m. - noon, and the Last Chance Webcast will be held from 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. Click here to see the 52 school that have yet to attend a workshop. TIME SENSITIVE

Executive Board September 8 - Meeting Agenda - The first Executive Board meeting of the year will take place on September 8 at the OSAA office in Wilsonville. Agenda items include: Adoption of the 2008-09 Handbook, Adoption of 2008-09 Playoff Revenue Distribution Formula, and several proposals to amend the OSAA Constitution. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

School Information Form - Deadline September 5 - The School Information Form is now available for use. This required form, located in the SchoolNet section of the OSAA website, includes contact and personnel information regarding your school for the OSAA database. ALL SCHOOLS MUST COMPLETE THIS FORM EVEN IF NO PERSONNEL CHANGES OCCURED AT THE SCHOOL DURING THE PAST SCHOOL YEAR. Passwords were printed on the mailing label of the packets distributed at the Administrator Workshops. Contact Marla Starkman with questions.

Cross Country District Meet Director Request - We need your help in gathering information for the 2008 Cross Country District Meets. If your school is in charge of your league's Cross Country District Meet, please download this spreadsheet, input your event/contact information, and email the completed file to Kristie at OSAA by September 12. Contact Kristie Patterson with any questions.

NFHS Coaches Education for Athletic Directors - The OSAA is administering a NFHS Coaches Education Course for Athletic Directors who are already certified under the ASEP Certification on September 24, 2008 at 8 a.m. at the OSAA office in Wilsonville. This course is free of charge. Contact Brad Garrett for registration and questions.

INFORMATIONAL

Fall Financial Need Application - Deadline September 11 - Oregon Sports Authority has partnered with the OSAA to provide financial assistance dollars again this year. We would like to have more schools and more individuals apply for this worthwhile program. Fall applications are due by September 11. Contact Kyle Stanfield with questions.

Oregon Wrestling Weight Monitoring Program - Initial Certification Workshop will be held on October 18, 2008 from 1-5 pm at the OSAA Office in Wilsonville.  Assessor candidates must complete the initial certification workshop if they plan to perform assessments during the 2008-09 school year.  Application and Instructions are posted to the OSAA website. REMINDERS

Fall Plans, Brackets and Districts - Updated information for the 2008-09 school year is now available on the OSAA website for Cross Country , Football , Soccer and Volleyball . Please review this information with all necessary personnel in your school/district. Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

Proposed Golf and Tennis Districts are now available. We are requesting that each school carefully study their placements and notify Kyle Stanfield as soon as possible of any errors, omissions, proposed alternative placements or co-op designations. The Executive Board will adopt the Special Athletic District Placements for Golf and Tennis at the September 8, 2008 Executive Board Meeting

The 2008-09 OSAA Handbook and Forms have been updated and posted to the website. Once again, the OSAA will not be sending printed copies or CDs to schools. The Handbook is searchable on the website and can also be downloaded as a PDF file to your computer. Schools can print their own copies of the Handbook using the PDF version (124 pages). Contact any Executive Staff member with questions.

08-09 NFHS Rules Books Order Form - If you have not ordered your 08-09 NFHS Rule Books for the upcoming year please do so as soon as possible. Each school will receive one rule book for each OSAA-sanctioned activity they are registered in that has a rule book. These complimentary rule books should not be included in any other rule book orders placed for the 2008-09 school year. Contact Amerilyn Rivett with questions.

All District Athletic Committee eligibility requests with rulings need to have a copy sent to the OSAA. Contact Amerilyn Rivett with questions.

TIME SENSITIVE

NFHS Soccer Shin Guard Safety Standards - In 2006, the NFHS soccer rules committee adopted a requirement that will go into effect this school year that shin guards meet certain safety standards. This is a safety issue that also has potential liability implications. Please review the following memo from the NFHS with your soccer coaching staff. Contact Mike Wallmark with questions.

2008 Volleyball Reminders - This memo from Cindy Simmons outlines several key reminders for volleyball programs as the 2008 season begins. Included is information regarding the Fall Practice Model, officials, participation limitations, formats, etc. Please share this information with your volleyball coaching staff. Endowment Games Approved List - This list of approved Endowment Games for 2008-09 was updated earlier this week. Please note that Endowment Games are separate from Early Games. Contact Peter Weber with question about Endowment Games and Brad Garrett with questions about Early Games.

Wall Calendars - 2008-09 OSAA Wall Calendars were mailed late last week to all member school athletic directors. Each 6A, 5A, 4A school received six calendars and 3A, 2A, 1A schools each received three. Special thanks to Reser's Fine Foods for sponsoring this year's calendar.
