Reigning 4A champion La Grande used a strong offensive line push to beat back Nyssa, 42-8, in the Tigers’ season opener played on Thursday ay Nyssa. Head coach Rich McIlmoil credited the guys in the trenches -- Jarrett Armstrong, Ryan VanderZanden, Nick Bornstedt, Cole Jorgensen, Noah McIlmoil, and Lukas Schelin – with helping La Grande sustain a drive for a score on the first drive to set the tone for the game. Nyssa fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Philo-math adds up to zero

Caleb Jensen found Ty May on a 43-yard scoring strike in the second quarter and the Philomath defense make it hold up in a 7-0 Thursday win over Dayton, the second straight shutout for the Warriors on the season. Philomath held Dayton to 116 yards of total offense and benefited from interceptions from Gio Abdelsayed, Alek Russell and Chase Beardsley. Dayton’s defense also acquitted itself well in the loss, holding Philomath to just 173 total yards.

Phillips’ star turn helps TigerScots head to victory

Levie Phillips rushed for 74 yards and scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, part of 20 unanswered points, as Weston-McEwen outpointed Umatilla, 20-7, in a Thursday tilt.

YC INT eventually leads to KO

Quinten Ramsey-Burress came up with a touchdown-saving interception 12 seconds before halftime to get Yamhill-Carlton to the break leading Blanchet Catholic, 13-12. The Tigers then outscored Blanchet, 21-6, in the second half to win, 34-18, in a Thursday showdown. Mikel Rivas rushed for 155 yards for the victors. Logan Day rushed for two scores in the loss for the host Cavaliers.  

Eagles use ground game to soar

Yoncalla / North Douglas ran for 460 yards in a 58-8 win over Gold Beach. Four runners, Bryan Allen, Cade Olds, Jordan Aguilar and Paul Rayon-Wilder, combined for 441 yards rushing and seven touchdowns on just 25 rushing attempts, and the Eagle defense held Gold Beach to just 100 yards of total offense in the complete win.

Ballard and Irwin combine for six in Monroe win

Brody Ballard rushed for three touchdowns and Chris Irwin rushed for three more as Monroe won at Creswell, 48-14. Trent Bateman led the Dragon defense with 11 tackles and also caught three passes. Connor Hanson ran for one score and threw for another for Creswell in the loss.

Muggy night for Thurston football

Dawson Muggy threw for 123 yards and a score and Gavin Knights and Jeremy Foss ran for 227 yards combined in Thurston’s 46-6 win over Willamette. Dane Woodcock’s third quarter pass to Johnson Lin produced the only score for the Wolverines.

House calls spark La Salle win

Freshman Niko May and senior Will Curran had back-to-back pick 6s in the second quarter and Riley Peterson had three receiving touchdowns, all from Ryan Rosumny, in La Salle Prep’s 63-19 win over St. Helens.

Dallas has more than a lone star in win over Lebanon

Ashton Foster threw for two scores, Logan Person ran for two, John Hoffenbredl had one of each and Connor Nash caught both a touchdown pass and two-point conversion in Dallas’ 38-27 win over Lebanon.

Pay the Peiffer

Sabastion Peiffer ran for three second-half scores to break open a close game in Gladstone’s 48-8 victory over North Marion.

Wilson flips pass to Cimmyotti in Heppner win

Jayden Wilson rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns and threw for another to Kason Cimmyotti in Heppner’s 46-0 shutout of Stanfield.

Newberg well-armed in Liberty win

Levi Durrell threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns as Newberg built a 38-0 first half lead in the 38-8 victory over Liberty.

Crouse picks up where he left off

Dylan Crouse had an interception for the second straight week, but this was a house call in West Linn’s 41-2 home win over Lakeridge. The Lions opened the scoring with a fourth-down TD toss from Blake DeBisschop to Clay Masters and put up five offensive touchdowns, but the story again was the defense, which got terrific play on the edges from Jake Holmes and Kaanan Huffman and rebuffed every Pacer scoring attempt.
