Top-seeded Union dominated the backboard to defeat No. 5 Jordan Valley 54-42 in the semifinals of the OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 1A girls basketball tournament Friday at Baker High School.

The Bobcats (26-2) owned a 49-19 edge in rebounds and a 19-1 advantage in second-chance points against the Mustangs (25-4), helping to make up for a 22-13 disadvantage in turnovers.

Kaelyn Shoemaker made 8 of 14 shots and finished with 18 points and 21 rebounds to lead Union. The Bobcats also got 14 points from Millie Miller, who shot 4 of 7 from three-point range, and 11 points, 14 rebounds and four assists from Sawyer Shoemaker.

Union, which won the 2A title in 2022, advances to play No. 3 Crane in Saturday's final. Union defeated Crane 63-52 at home Dec. 12.

Jordan Valley led 8-2 before Union responded to go up 13-12 after one quarter. The Bobcats opened a 27-16 lead at half behind a surge that included three-pointers by Miller and Taylor Browning.

Kaelyn Shoemaker scored to open the second half, making it 29-16. Jordan Valley got back in the game, pulling to within 32-28 late in the third quarter on a basket by Kenzie Tuttle.

But Miller caught fire in the fourth quarter, hitting three three-pointers and a jumper to expand Union's lead to 49-37 with 3:29 remaining. Browning added another triple to make it 52-39 with 2:57 remaining.

Meg Eiguren and Jalee Maestrejuan scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, to lead Jordan Valley, which made its first semifinal appearance since 1999.

No. 3 Crane 49, No. 2 Imbler 25: The reigning champion Mustangs (24-5) went on a 15-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to pull away from the Panthers (23-5).

Down 14-9 early in the second quarter, Crane responded to pull ahead 22-17 at half. Kaitlyn Siegner scored nine points in the quarter.

Imbler was still within 26-22 when Whitney Haddock made a free throw with 3:01 left in the third quarter, but Crane scored the next 15 points to take command. Kamryn Dunten hit two free throws with 4:45 remaining to make it 41-22.

Siegner finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds and five steals. Dunten had 13 points and nine rebounds and Emily Clark added four points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Mustangs, who shot 30.5 percent (18 for 59).

Imbler shot 17.9 percent – going 0 for 16 on three-point attempts – and committed 25 turnovers. Rachael Stirewalt had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers.

Crane will appear in the final for the sixth consecutive season, counting the 2021 culminating week tournament. The Mustangs will go for their fifth title in that span.
