No. 10 seed Perrydale turned back a late rally by No. 23 Adrian to win 57-55 in the first round of the 1A boys basketball playoffs Tuesday night.

The Casco League co-champion Pirates (20-6) led by double digits several times, opening a 48-38 advantage early in the fourth quarter, but the visiting Antelopes (15-12) refused to go away.

Adrian pulled within four points with 1:40 left and made it a two-point game in the closing seconds, but Perrydale avoided the Antelopes' last-ditch effort to foul and ran out the clock. The Pirates can earn their first trip to the eight-team state tournament since 2017 when they play at No. 7 Lost River on Friday.

"Down the stretch we really came together,” said Perrydale senior guard Brandon Lux, who scored 10 points. “All of us seniors just needed to stay as a group and keep our composure in tight games like this.

"If we can come out like we did Saturday against Crosshill in the league tournament, I think that'll help us get the edge on Lost River. Just have the most intensity that we've had all season."

Connor Graber, a 6-foot senior guard, led the Pirates with 18 points. Senior post Lucas Thorson (6-7) scored 15 points and senior wing Eric Danka added 13 points for Perrydale.

"We knew they were going to be physical, they were going to be tough, and we couldn't overlook them," Graber said. "We knew it was going to be physical from the top to the bottom and we had to have the mental game to finish the game."

Senior Mason Fullmer and junior Colten Bayes led Adrian with 14 points each.
