A look at Wednesday's 6A first-round games in the OSAA / OnPoint Community Credit Union Girls Basketball State Championships

No. 1 South Medford 67, No. 32 Central Catholic 22 – South Medford led by 21 after one quarter and 38-8 at halftime in the first-round playoff rout of the Rams.

No. 16 Sherwood 54, No. 17 Cleveland 42 – 6-4 senior Ava Heiden had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Sherwood to offset a 23-point night for Cleveland senior Addy Huss in the loss.

No. 8 Southridge 60, No. 25 Glencoe 44 – Sarah Mangan had a game-high 23 points and Addie White added 10 while playing hard-nosed defense for the victorious Skyhawks. Maddie Eischen scored 19 for Glencoe.

No. 5 Willamette 46, No. 28 Newberg 40 – Bryn Smith had 15 and Isabella Harms chipped in with 12 for the victorious Wolverines.

No. 12 Oregon City 72, No. 21 South Salem 50 – The Pioneers used a balanced attack to offset 20 points in defeated from Brook Tate. Kaitlen Carns, Megan Craig and Mollie Miller combined for 27 points in the win for Oregon City.

No. 13 Forest Grove 53, No. 20 Westview 48 – Lauren Buchanan and Cali Davis teamed for 29 points in the Vikings’ home win.

No. 4 Jefferson, PDX, 59, No. 29 Tigard 29 -- On a night the Demos celebrated their alumni, the current varsity put on a first-half show, locking down on defense and opening a big lead before the break. Chauncey Anderson scored 19 points and Abrianna Lawrence had 16 points and eight assists.

No. 3 McMinnville 62, No. 30 Ida B. Wells 32 – McMinnville trailed by one at the half but recovered to dominate the second in the home win. Macie Arzner stuffed the state sheet for the Grizzlies with 23 points, seven rebounds, six steals and three assists.

No. 14 Grants Pass 59, No. 19 Barlow 27: Solid defense and strong all-around games from Brooke Anderson (20 points, five rebounds, four steals) and Brooklyn Wakefield (16 points, 11 rebounds, three steals) propelled the Cavemen at home.

No. 11 Nelson 55, No. 20 Liberty 20 – 15 points apiece for Lainey Day and Love Forde propelled Nelson to the convincing home win. The Hawks trailed Liberty, 11-8, after one quarter but held the Falcons to just nine points the rest of the way.

No. 6 Benson 87, No. 27 McNary 31 -- Samarah Massey made four three-pointers and scored 23 points and Eboni Clay hit three three-pointers and added 20 points as the Techsters overcame a slow start to rout the Celtics.

No. 7 Tualatin 45, No. 26 Grant 19 – The Timberwolves opened up a 23-4 halftime lead and were never headed. Maaya Lucas had a double-double (points and rebounds) for the winning team, which got seven points and eight steals from Alex Padilla

No. 10 Jesuit 56, No. 23 Sheldon 30 – Sheldon led by a point after two quarters but the Crusaders dominated the second half to take the win at home. Audrey Bayless scored 22 for the victors and Kenda Hicks contributed a whopping 18 rebounds to the cause. No Irish player scored more than six points.

No. 15 West Salem 52, No. 18 Beaverton 42 – Freshman Karlee Martirano scored the first five points of overtime to help West Salem escape with the first-round win. She finished with 18 points, one of three Titans in double figures.

No. 2 Clackamas 80, No. 31 North Medford 25 – Jazzy Davidson scored 31 points and eight boards and Sara Barhoum added 21 while shooting 55 percent from long distance for the Cavaliers in the efficient home win.
