A look at second-round 6A, 3A and 2A/1A playoff results in the OSAA / OnPoint Community Credit Union State Championships

6A

No. 1 West Linn 3, No. 16 Grants Pass 1 – Danny Wideman hit a first-inning two-run homer and Blake Crawford made it stand up, striking out 13 Cavemen while yielding just two hits and one unearned run.

No. 8 Tualatin 3, No. 9 Central Catholic 2 – Glen Maduro drove home the winning run to help the Timberwolves edge Central. The Rams led 2-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh but could not hold the lead. Joey Mattecheck got the win with 4.2 perfect innings of relief. 

No. 21 Clackamas 4, No. 28 Beaverton 3 -- Senior Joey Giancola had three hits and freshman Ben Foglio allowed just one run over six innings in the win for Clackamas.

No. 4 Jesuit 9, No. 13 Sandy 6 (8 innings) – Treynor Cleeland delivered a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to walk the Crusaders off to victory. Sandy took a 5-4 lead to the bottom of the last but walked in a run to send the game to extras. Jesuit also got a homer from Preston Miller. Cooper Hibbs went yard for Sandy.

No. 3 Sunset 4, No. 19 Sherwood 2 – Sophomore Parker Raubuch went the distance on the bump, fanning five while walking none. The game was tied at 2-2 until Dakota Chun’s double in the bottom of the fifth scored the go-ahead run and one more for insurance.

No. 6 Westview 6, No. 11 Barlow 1 -- Westview scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie, sparked by Ezra Vice's bases-clearing double and Kevin Pena's RBI single. Maxwell Stuart went five on the mound for the win.

No. 26 Mountainside 5, No. 10 McMinnville 0 -- Alex Ingalls pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out five, and was aided by Elym Young's bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth.

No. 2 South Salem 11, No. 18 McNary 1 (6 innings) – Sawyer Nelson had two HRs and a double and drove in four, Noah Scharer also homered and Carter Nelson allowed just one run over six innings while striking out seven in the Saxons’ win.

3A

No. 16 North Valley 5, No. 1 Douglas 3 -- The Knights scored four runs in the top of the seventh to lead 5-1 then hung on to oust the top seeds. Dane Kissel tossed a complete game and struck out his sixth batter to end it. Landon Allison had two hits and three RBIs to lead the offense.

No. 9 Brookings-Harbor 16, No. 8 Joseph / Enterprise / Wallowa 8 – The Bruins survived a 650-mile trip and found themselves down by four runs twice but was able to claw back each time. Cam Hendrix hit a homer and Austin Dietrich and Tala Pryor had three hits each in the win.

No. 5 Sisters 9, No. 12 South Umpqua 0 – The Outlaws got great pitching from Brody Fischer and backed his effort with nine hits and nine runs in the win.

No. 4 Pleasant Hill 9, No. 13 Taft 5 – The Billies rallied from behind, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth, sparked by DJ Holman’s two-run double; to prevail at home. Caden Richardson struck out 11 over 6+ to earn the win.

No. 3 Warrenton 11, No. 19 Yamhill-Carlton 1 (6 innings) – Talon McGrorty yielded three hits and one unearned run over six innings and was backed by a 10-hit performance as the Warriors picked up win No. 22 on the season.

No. 11 Valley Catholic 10, No. 6 Cascade Christian 8 (8 innings) -- Elliott Bielefeld was 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, Trevor Yee added 3 RBIs and Kris Radosavljevic delivered the go-ahead RBI with a triple in the top of the 10th. Jordan Baumgartner added an RBI single for insurance in the dramatic win.

No. 7 La Pine 4, No. 10 Lakeview 1—Hunter Heal pitched a complete game for La Pine, which played great defense behind him. The Hawks scored two in the first and added two in the fifth.

No. 2 Banks 9, No. 15 Santiam Christian 2 -- The Braves put up five in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 9-0 and were stout the rest of the way in victory. Wyatt Hesselman threw five shutout innings and Ashton Crossen had a double and three RBIs in the win.


2A/1A

No. 1 Knappa 14, No. 16 Illinois Valley 4 (6 innings) – Jaxon Dietrichs pitched three shutout innings and reach base four times for the Loggers and Treven Moreland tripled and scored three runs in the win.

No. 9 Kennedy 5, No. 8 Grant Union / Prairie City / Monument 2 -- Brody Kleinschmit shined on the mound for the Trojans, fanning nine in a route-going performance. Dom Beyer had 3 RBIs and Isaac Berning had two hits for Kennedy. Sheldon Lentz had two hits for Grant Union.

No. 12 North Douglas / Elkton 6, No. 5 Reedsport 5 – Tucker Kallinger went the distance in a hard-fought road win that saw all nine players contribute for the Warriors.

No. 4 Regis 1, No. 13 Culver 0 – A classic pitcher’s duel turned Regis’ way thanks to Luke Castillo’s RBI double in the bottom of the sixth. That made a winner of Max Eaton, who tossed a complete-game three hitter.

No. 3 Blanchet Catholic 14, No. 14 Bandon / Pacific 4 (5 innings) – Drew Bartels had two homers and struck out 10 for the Cavaliers, who had 15 hits. Dylan Cuff, Tyson Smith and Landon Gerig joined Bartels in having multi-hit games.

No. 6 St. Paul 19, No. 22 Union / Cove 4 – The Bucks got the bats going in this one, led by junior Clay Smith, who went 4-for-4; and freshman Bricen Britten, who had three hits and three RBIs. Juniors Brett Knutson and Grady Wolf were stellar on the mound, combining to yield just five hits and one earned run.

No. 7 Clatskanie 7, No. 10 Heppner / Ione 3 – The return from injury of senior Ayden Boursaw was a big boost for Clatskanie. He went five innings, giving up three runs while striking out five. The Tigers took advantage of seven hit batsmen to advance.

No. 2 Umpqua Valley Christian 11, No. 15 Irrigon 1 (6 innings) – Ty Hellenthal pitched a gem for UVC, which got key hits in the sixth inning to take advantage of Irrigon mistakes.
