The OSAA Executive Board met in a work session on Tuesday, January 18 to discuss 2022 Winter State Championships and other aspects related to OSAA playoffs.

After lengthy discussion, the OSAA Executive Board made several decisions that will impact OSAA State Championships. The Board felt it was important to convey that the following changes are subject to change as the landscape with schools and the pandemic evolve.

2022 Winter Playoffs and State Championships

The Board also discussed the Cheerleading and Basketball State Championships. No structural changes were made to the Cheerleading State Championships at this time, but the Executive Board reserves the right to review the number of separate sessions for the championships after registration closes.

The Executive Board is optimistic that the Basketball State Championships can be conducted in the current 8-team final site formats but understands the situation could change. As with the Volleyball State Championships in the Fall, the Board is prepared to pivot the basketball quarterfinals to home school sites if necessary. The Board plans to further discuss this situation at its February 7 meeting.

Bracketed Games - Forfeitures

As in the Fall, once an OSAA State Championship bracket is published, no modifications will be made if a team is unable to play due to quarantines or other COVID related issues. The contest will be marked as a forfeit.

Rescheduling Contests (Cancellations, Forfeits, and Rankings)

Schools should have their league schedule finalized with any cancelled league contests posted to their schedule by Friday, February 11. Please contact Kris Welch ([email protected]) for assistance in marking league contests not played as forfeits.

The OSAA Executive Board remains committed to providing state championships in every activity offered by the Association and will continue to work closely with schools and venues throughout the year.
