Summit stuns South Eugene in overtime thriller; Riverside does the same at Brookings-Harbor

See below for results and highlights from all the playoff matches in boys soccer, as the quarterfinal rounds in all classifications were contested on Saturday. We will add more highlights as we receive them.

The semifinals in all classifications are on Tuesday.

Forest Grove 2, Aloha 1 – The Vikings started the match strongly and controlled the midfield but were unable to capitalize on two early chances. Emboldened, Aloha seized the lead midway through the first half when Sebastian Miranda dribbled through three defenders and found the back of the net. The Warriors controlled play for the remainder of the half. Forest Grove equalized five minutes into the second half on an Oscar Macias tap-in of a loose ball in the box. The Vikings scored the game winner with three minutes remaining when Cesar Bucio rocketed the ball inside the far post.

Jesuit 2, Grant 1 (PKs)

David Douglas 2, West Linn 1 – David Douglas got goals from Isaac Rangel Villafuerte in the 20th minute and Esad Salihovac on a penalty kick in the 75th minute and held off the Lions, who pressed hard and scored with three minutes remaining but could not get the equalizer.

Summit 1, South Eugene 0 (OT) – Great games by both goalkeepers kept this a scoreless game deep into the second overtime before Kamdon Simmons crossed the ball to Kyle Capdevila in the 97th minute. The junior forward collected the ball with his back to the goal, made a great turn and beat the South goalie with a shot to the far post.

La Salle Prep 2, Ridgeview 0 – Second-half goals from Brendan Dexter and Luke Strange carried the top-seeded and still-undefeated Falcons into the quarterfinals.

Central 1, Wilsonville 0 -- In a match where both teams hit posts and had multiple chances to put the ball in the back of the net, Central scored lone goal of the match with three minutes remaining to clinch advancement. "I must note that this game was well officiated and the referee crew allowed this game to be played and decided by the boys on the field," said Wilsonville coach Ian Reschke. "As a result this was a great playoff battle! Both teams pushed for a winner with back and forth action all game. We have to give Central credit as they found a way score against us in the run of play, which we hadn't allowed since playing at La Salle last month. I'm so proud of what our boys have accomplished this year despite many setbacks."

South Albany 5, Silverton 1 -- Slava Hubenya scored two goals and added an assist and Ozzie Ramirez tallied once and assisted on two others as South Albany built a 3-1 halftime lead and scored twice more to defeat the Foxes. The teams had previously played to a 3-all tie on Oct. 18.

Corvallis 5, Churchill 0 – Liam Clark scored in the 12th minute, one of a four-goal outburst in the first half for the second-seeded Spartans, who recorded their third shutout in a row and seventh of the season.

Phoenix 1, Marist Catholic 0 – Freshman Victor Martinez stole the ball near midfield with less than four minutes remaining in a scoreless duel and charged toward the Marist Catholic goal only to be taken to the ground in the penalty box. He converted the penalty kick and the goal held up as the top-seeded Pirates won at home.

North Marion 1, Seaside 0 -- North Marion scored midway through the first half and held off several scoring chances from host Seaside to claim the win on the road.

Woodburn 4, Valley Catholic 0 -- There was a playoff atmosphere at Woodburn on Saturday and the home team responded with three first-half goals, starting with a Salvador Perez tally ten minutes in. Rodolfo Campuzano and Pedro Hernandez also scored first-half goals for the Bulldogs, who added one last goal from Jairo Aguirre to cap the win.

Madras 2, Newport / Toledo 1 – Madras prevailed in this rematch of the 2016 championship, taking a 2-0 lead on goals from Andres Acuna late in the first half and Omar Diaz midway through the second. Luis Reyes had three “world-class” saves in a five-minute span of the second half to keep Newport in what was a very physical game. Oscar Jimenez scored from inside the 18-yard box with 11 seconds to play to cut the Madras lead to one but Newport did not have time to threaten again in the closing seconds. 

3A/2A/1A

Oregon Episcopal School 6, Santiam Christian 0 -- Two first-half goals by Jonah Song gave OES a comfortable halftime lead. Song’s third goal ten minutes into the second half opened the floodgates an the Aardvarks scored three more times in the dominating win.

Riverside 4, Brookings-Harbor 3 (OT) – The Pirates enjoyed their 505-mile drive back to Boardman in the northeastern part of the state after edging Brookings-Harbor, located in the extreme southwestern part of the state, in overtime on Saturday. Tied at 2-2 after regulation play, Riverside scored twice in the extra time; Brookings-Harbor countered with a lone goal. Cristian Rea and Gerardo Lopez each scored twice for Riverside to aid in the victory.

St. Mary’s, Medford 5, Western Christian / Perrydale 0

Catlin Gabel 3, Dayton 2 -- In a fiercely-contested match, Catlin Gabel and Dayton traded goals back and forth, with the Eagles going up for good, 3-2, with about 20 minutes left. Dayton played with great heart, coming back to equalize while a man down, but Catlin Gabel keeper Bowen Blair came up big in the final minutes to secure the win.
