Tualatin’s softball team set what is believed to be a state record Friday by extending its winning streak to 41 games with a 7-6, 10-inning win at Sunset in a 6A nonleague game.

No official state records are kept, but the only other known streak of such length was by Marist Catholic, which won 40 in a row in 2008 and 2009.

The Timberwolves (11-0), No. 1 in the OSAAtoday 6A poll, got all they could handle from the No. 8 Apollos (8-4). Sunset took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and led 5-2 after five innings.

Tualatin cut the lead to 5-4 in the sixth inning and pulled even at 5-5 with a run in the top of the seventh. The Timberwolves took a 6-5 lead in the ninth, but Sunset answered to tie 6-6.

The game went to the international tiebreaker in the 10th, and Tualatin scored on a wild pitch to lead 7-6. Timberwolves junior pitcher Tia Ridings -- who pitched a complete game, giving up 11 hits and recording 10 strikeouts – got the Apollos in order in the bottom of the 10th to seal the win.

Tualatin finished with 10 hits. Ridings went 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs and junior Bella Valdes had two hits and two RBIs. Senior Emily Johansen also had two hits and seniors Andrea Gomez and Lily Marshall had RBIs.
