Rankings Freeze and Play-In Dates Summary

6A Football

12-team OSAA OPEN bracket and a 16-team OSAA bracket

  1. Automatic Qualifiers – Twenty-two teams automatically qualify for the OSAA’s 28 qualifying spots (Two brackets: 12-team OPEN BRACKET and 16-team 6A Championship bracket) based on regular season and/or special district tournament play on or before Friday, November 1. Each league/special district determines how they will select their allotted playoff spots.

  2. Rankings Freeze Date – The rankings will freeze at 10pm on Friday, November 1.

  3. At-Large Qualifiers – Six additional teams will qualify for the OSAA's 28 qualifying spots (Two brackets: 12-team OPEN BRACKET and 16-team 6A Championship bracket) based on the OSAA rankings. Once the rankings are frozen, the 6 highest ranked teams not already an automatic special district qualifier will qualify as At-Large teams.

  4. Rankings – Once the 28 qualifying teams are determined, they will be placed on the OSAA brackets according to OSAA Executive Board Policy "State Championships – Rankings".

      OSAA 12 - team Football OPEN Championship Bracket
      The six league champions along with the next six highest ranked teams from the 28 qualifying teams will make up the 12-team state OPEN championship bracket.

      OSAA 16 - team Football 6A Championship Bracket
      The remaining 16 qualifying teams will be placed on the 6A Championship 16-team bracket
