Rankings Freeze and Play-In Dates Summary

6A Football

12-team 6A Open bracket and 16-team 6A bracket

  1. Automatic Qualifiers – 22 teams automatically qualify for the OSAA’s 28 qualifying spots (Two brackets: 12-team 6A Open bracket and 16-team 6A bracket) based on regular season and/or special district tournament play on or before Friday, November 1. Each league/special district determines how they will select their allotted playoff spots.

    PIL - 4; Metro - 3; Pacific - 3; Mt. Hood - 4; Three Rivers - 3; Special District 1 - 5

    PIL - Ida B. Wells, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Jefferson
    Metro - Mountainside, Jesuit, Westview
    Pacific - Sherwood, Newberg, McMinnville
    Mt. Hood - Central Catholic, Nelson, Clackamas, Sandy
    Three Rivers - Lake Oswego, West Linn, Lakeridge
    Special District 1 - Sheldon, Sprague, South Medford, North Medford, West Salem

  2. Rankings Freeze Date – The rankings will freeze at 10pm on Friday, November 1.

  3. At-Large Qualifiers – Six additional teams will qualify for the OSAA's 28 qualifying spots (Two brackets: 12-team 6A Open bracket and 16-team 6A bracket) based on the OSAA rankings. Once the rankings are frozen, the six highest ranked teams not already an automatic special district qualifier will qualify as At-Large teams.

    At-Large #1 - Tualatin
    At-Large #2 - Grants Pass
    At-Large #3 - Tigard
    At-Large #4 - Sunset
    At-Large #5 - Oregon City
    At-Large #6 - Liberty

  4. Rankings – Once the 28 qualifying teams are determined, they will be placed on the OSAA brackets according to OSAA Executive Board Policy "State Championships – Rankings".

    OSAA 12-team 6A Open Bracket
    The six league champions along with the next six highest ranked teams from the 28 qualifying teams will make up the 12-team 6A Open bracket. The top four (4) ranked teams will have a first-round bye. League champions ranked in the Top 12 will host a home game provided that at least two (2) league champions are among the top four (4) ranked teams. Otherwise, the lowest ranked league champion(s) would not host a home game. Any league champion ranked outside the Top 12 will be moved into the Top 12 but will not host a home game.

    OSAA 16-team 6A Bracket
    The remaining 16 qualifying teams will be placed on the 16-team 6A bracket.
