[Editor’s note: “Take Five” is a recurring feature designed to offer a quick look at some of Oregon’s most interesting high school sports standouts. This spring, Take Five will focus exclusively on seniors, whose final high school seasons have been disrupted by the coronavirus and may never actually occur. Today, we get to meet Haley Aiken, a Sutherlin senior who has been on the varsity golf team and team captain for three years. Aiken also has been team MVP and has competed in district championships. She’s been playing golf since the age of 4. We asked Aiken to answer five questions from the 25 we posed to her. Here’s what she told us…]
OSAAtoday: What is your favorite class in school and why?
Haley Aiken: Anything that has to do with science but, to be more specific, anatomy. I took college level anatomy last year as a junior and it was one the best classes I have ever taken. We got to dissect cow eyes, sheep brain, pig heart, and a fertile pig.
OSAAtoday: What about going to college scares the bejeebers out of you?
Aiken: Being alone in a new element and not knowing anyone. I am a pretty quiet individual but I can also be outgoing at times.
OSAAtoday: If you HAD to go on a reality show, which would it be and why?
Aiken: I would go onto ‘The Bachelor’ just because all the drama is so fun to watch. I would be the girl who creates all the drama, making all the girls hate me, and then I would make whoever the bachelor is fall in love with me.
OSAAtoday: What's the funniest moment you remember from your childhood?
Aiken: Cutting my own bangs when I was 2. I had bangs ever since my hair could grow out that far and I thought it would be a good idea to give myself a little trim. So I climbed onto the bathroom counter, opened the drawer, grabbed the scissors, and cut.
OSAAtoday: Who is your celebrity crush and why?
Aiken: My celebrity crush is Shemar Moore because he is an actor in the TV series, ‘Criminal Minds,’ and I love true crime shows. His character is also the type of guy who is not afraid of anything and he puts himself on the line first.
