LAKE OSWEGO -- The top-ranked Lake Oswego Lakers opened 6A Three Rivers League football play Friday by defeating the visiting Oregon City Pioneers 63-17.

“It’s hard to score 63 points in a football game, but when you do, you have to make a lot of big plays," Lakers coach Steve Coury said. "I thought we had a lot of big plays tonight."

Lake Oswego’s offense was led by senior running back Collin Bracken and junior receiver Casey Filkins. Bracken rushed for 210 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. Filkins had 190 receiving yards and three touchdown catches and rushed for two scores. The Lakers (3-0) had 529 yards.

“Tonight we ran the ball really well, and that opened up the rest of the offense," Coury said. "I’m really proud of the offensive line, and of course Casey and Collin did a great job running the ball."

Oregon City senior Zakhayas Dennis-Lee rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Sophomore receiver Jahleel Heath had three catches for 42 yards and one score for the Pioneers (1-2).

Up next for the Lakers is a nonleague showdown at No. 2 Clackamas (3-0).

“The biggest message to the team is don’t get complacent, keep working, keep getting better," Coury said. "We've got a great group of kids that get it and keep their eye on the bulls-eye. Just take every week one week at a time, that’s going to be the key moving forward.”
