North Eugene dancers are all smiles after winning the 5A division at Canby.

The second weekend of competition saw more teams returning to competition at Canby as dance teams continue to prepare for the OSAA dance and drill championships in March.

Debuting their state routine, “Riviére á Mer”, North Eugene earned the top spot in the 5A division. Their performance earned them first-place with a score of 15.83. Lebanon finished second (15.50), followed by Pendleton (15.00), and Parkrose (13.39).

“What an incredible weekend of dance at Canby. We have been really focused on our team goals for the season, methodically inching our way to the next checkmark on our to-do list. I know we are not alone in the battling overwhelming obstacles it feels like every program has faced for the last couple years,” said Angie Huff, North Eugene’s coach.

“To have earned first place was incredible, but we have just been grateful to get to be back on the floor doing what we love to do, and watching others do the same. State can’t come fast enough. We’ve all been patiently waiting for you.”

In the 4A/3A/2A/1A division, Valley Catholic and Philomath finished 1-2 the second week in a row. The Charisma earned first-place (15.72) followed by Philomath (14.06). Banks was third (11.17) with its performance of “How it Ends.”

Mountainside earned at 15.61 to bring home first place in the 6A division. Nelson, the newest team in 6A, finished second with a score of 15.00. Barlow (14.50) was third, followed by Reynolds (13.11).

Performing their routine, “All Things Considered,” the Sprague Olyannes earned first place (17.22) in the Show division. Sheldon finished second (15.44). Glencoe was third (14.67) with its performance of “Let Her Burn," followed by Putnam (14.00) and Grant (13.84).

Dance teams continue their winter competition schedule with events hosted by Tigard and Sheldon on Feb. 12.
