Top-seeded St. Paul completed a perfect season by defeating No. 2 Powder Valley in four sets in the final of the OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 1A volleyball tournament Saturday at Ridgeview High School.

In a battle of unbeaten teams, St. Paul won 25-16, 12-25, 25-6, 25-12 to finish the season with a 30-0 record. The Buckaroos won 83 of their 87 sets this season.

It is the first title for St. Paul, which moved down to 1A after making the 2A quarterfinals last year.

Juniors Isabelle Wyss and Erin Counts had 21 and 19 kills, respectively, for St. Paul. Junior Karlee Southerland had 29 assists and seven aces and senior libero Emma Connor added 15 digs.

Powder Valley (33-1) got 14 kills from sophomore middle blocker Belle Blair.

2A

Simone Gordon, a 6-foot-2 senior, led the way as No. 4 Portland Christian beat No. 2 Grant Union, the reigning champion, in five sets in the 2A final at Ridgeview.

Gordon had 29 kills as the Royals (24-3) won 28-26, 23-25, 25-11, 24-26, 15-13. With the match tied 13-13 in the fifth set, Gordon delivered with back-to-back kills to clinch the win.

It is the first title for Portland Christian since it won in 2006 and 2007.

Senior Skylar Scott had 33 assists, junior Madeline DeLucia had 22 assists and junior Josie Ernst added 13 kills for the Royals. For Grant Union (28-5), senior Kaylee Wright had 13 kills and 20 digs and senior Hailie Wright had 12 kills and 29 assists.
