GLADSTONE -- Mateo Burgos hit a 47-yard field goal with no time left as No. 2 seed Gladstone came from behind in the second half to beat visiting La Grande 30-27 in a 4A football quarterfinal Friday night.
No. 7 La Grande (7-3) used a relentless running attack to take a 20-14 lead into halftime. Quarterback Parker Robinson led the Tigers with 142 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown. He was also 9 out of 13 for 101 yards and three touchdowns.
But the Gladiators (8-2) took advantage of four La Grande turnovers -- two in the second half -- to dominate the third quarter. Behind the dual rushing attack of Sabastian Pfeiffer (15 carries, 70 yards, one touchdown) and Spencer Boyd (15 carries, 58 yards, one touchdown), Gladstone pulled ahead 27-20.
La Grande scored on a 16-yard pass from Robinson to Blaine Shaw with 49 seconds left. Hayden Shafer added the extra point to tie 27-27.
The Gladiators responded by driving 35 yards, leading to Burgos’ heroics.
Gladstone will take on Seaside in the semifinals.
