Seventeen dance/drill teams in five categories came together at Tigard High School over the weekend.
Hip hop, Pom, and Traditional categories had major showings, with Jazz and Show also appearing in the mix. Astoria, Aloha, Bend, Clackamas, Grant, Lincoln, Mountainside, Newberg, Newport, Parkrose, Roosevelt, Scappoose, Silverton, South Medford, Tualatin, Westview, and Wilsonville were in attendance, with Tigard as hosts.
Clackamas shared their Show again at Tigard, the second appearance of this routine this year. Clackamas was the only entry in the Show category at the Tigard competition, and received an 82.28 with their routine. This is the highest scoring Show team so far this season.
Show teams that are still waiting in the wings are Cleveland, not yet seen, and Canby, seen as an exhibition, but not yet scored. Canby, Clackamas, Cleveland, Putnam, Sprague, and West Linn are the only six Show teams competing this year, and should all be in play by the end of next weekend.
Clackamas also received the unofficial honor of the highest score of the competition, with an impressive 88.44 in the Traditional (6A) category, just edging out Tualatin’s score of 85.11. Tualatin’s second place routine was also the second highest score of the competition overall. Traditional (6A) had a line-up of six teams, an impressive roster that also included Grant, Mountainside, Lincoln, and Aloha.
Hip Hop (1A-5A) and Pom (6A) were also crowded categories, each having a six team line-up as well. Mountainside took the first place honors for Pom (6A), a close scoring outcome among the competitors, Westview, Tualatin, Lincoln, Newberg, and Aloha. Astoria took the top trophy for Hip Hop (1A-5A) against Parkrose, Scappoose, Wilsonville, Bend, and Newport.
Less crowded, but just as fierce, was Hip Hop (6A) with four teams. South Medford took first place, followed by Westview, Roosevelt, and Newberg. Also having a line-up of four teams was Traditional (1A-5A), with Silverton occupying the first place position, followed by Scappoose, Wilsonville, and Bend.
Parkrose waltzed away with a first place in Pom (1A-5A) against Wilsonville and Scappoose.
The Jazz categories had four entries total, with Tualatin the only 6A entry, receiving an impressive 82.83. Silverton took home another first place trophy in this category against the other 1A-5A teams, Astoria and Parkrose. Silverton has entered Jazz and Traditional events at three different competitions, and has taken home first place against various competitors every time so far.

The Oregon Dance/Drill reach didn’t end in Tigard over the weekend. Representing Oregon at the national level at the Dance Team Union Nationals event was Lake Oswego and Sherwood. Lake Oswego made finals with their “Large Varsity Jazz” routine, and Sherwood made finals with their “Large Varsity Hip Hop” routine. Making Oregon proud all the way from Orlando, Florida! To make finals at these events is quite the accomplishment. Congratulations to Lake O and Sherwood!
