5A
Top seed Ridgeview moved to 24-1 with a narrow 2-1 victory over North Eugene. Junior Hailey Nelson, the ninth hitter in the lineup, hit a two-run single in the fourth inning for the Ravens’ only runs. Pitcher Brezlyn Hagemeister allowed three hits and struck out 12 in a complete game. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double. North Eugene pitcher Gracie Hibler held Ridgeview to a season low in runs. The Highlanders got an RBI groundout from Ella Anderson in the sixth inning for their only run. Catcher Kaylani Washburn had two hits for North Eugene. ...
Junior catcher Daphnie Heckel hit a walk-off three-run home run as No. 2 Thurston won a wild 15-13 decision over West Albany. The underdog Bulldogs led 6-3 through two innings before the host Colts scored eight times in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 11-6. West Albany then plated five in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 13-11 but could not hold on. All nine batters for Thurston (21-5) had at least one hit. Gabriella Montes went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, while Kendall Miller had two hits and three RBIs. Heckely drove in five for the game. Sophomore outfielder Ellison Smith went 5-for-5 for West Albany, which outhit Thurston 15-13. Pitcher Gabriella Young went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs. ...
Crater pitcher Ally Nottingham scattered six hits in a complete game and went 3-for-4 at the plate as the No. 3 Comets shut out Hillsboro 11-0 in six innings. Amanda Hammer ended the game by run rule with a two-run homer in the sixth, her third hit of the game. Danika Bracket was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Crater broke open a 3-0 game with six runs in the fifth inning. Madison Price had two doubles for Hillsboro. ... Caldera went on the road and shut down No. 4 Dallas 6-1. The Wolfpack scored four runs in the first inning and two in the second, then made it hold up. Elle Morton and Elie Hall each had two hits and drove in a run for Caldera, which started the season 0-6 but has rallied with 12 wins in its last 16 games. Elaina Santos Wagner pitched the whole game, allowing one run on seven hits. Kaiya Woolsey had an RBI single in the second inning for Dallas’ only run. Pitcher Madi Ruman went 2-for-3 and struck out nine batters in a losing effort. ...
No. 5 Canby scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Central 1-0. Katelyn Vissers and Natalie Kern had the only hits for the host Cougars. Alli Hayzlett threw a shutout, giving up four hits with seven strikeouts. Center fielder Summer St. John prevented a Central run in the sixth inning with a diving catch to end the inning. Ari Williams had two hits to lead the No. 12 Panthers, who got a strong outing from pitcher Lily McCormick, who allowed just two hits and struck out eight Cougars. ... Eagle Point made the long trip to Hood River Valley and took down the sixth-seeded hosts 4-2. Brylee Leonardo allowed only two unearned runs and three hits with eight strikeouts to earn the victory. Madisyn Dean’s two-run double in the fourth inning gave Eagle Point (16-11) a 4-0 lead and ended up being the decisive hit. Sarah Estes and Allison Martin had two hits each. Hood River Valley pitcher Grace Rowan struck out 13 and walked none in a complete-game loss. The home Eagles scored their only runs on an error in the bottom of the fourth inning. ...
Wilsonville rallied from three runs down on the road to beat Silverton 8-6. The Wildcats scored six runs in the fourth inning to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 7-4 lead. They pushed the lead to 8-4 and then held off a late comeback bid by the Foxes. Pitcher Addi Smith hit a home run for Wilsonville (17-11) and struck out 13 in the circle. Shae Seber was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Mogan Christiansen, Bailee Van Meter and Sadie Hibbard also drove in runs. Mckenzee Peterson went 2-for-4 with a home run for Silverton. Lexington Rains had a two-run single that gave the Foxes a 2-1 lead in the first inning. ...
Defending state champion Bend, the No. 8 seed this year, forced extra innings after trailing by four runs then scored three times in the eighth inning to defeat La Salle Prep 8-6. Janelle Guiney doubled in the eighth to give the Lava Bears the lead, then McKenna Nye followed with a run-scoring single for her third RBI. The host Falcons scored a run in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded with two outs but Bend pitcher Taylor Aldrich recorded a strikeout to end the game. Guiney, Nye, Lauren Glasser, Mackenzie Shaughnessy and Emily Lauerman all had two hits for Bend. Nora Hudson and Audrey Waters had three hits each for La Salle Prep, which scored five runs in the second inning to lead 5-1. Bend scored four times in the sixth to even things up. La Salle Prep stranded the potential winning run on third base in the seventh inning.
4A
No. 1 St. Helens jumped on Baker early and cruised to a 10-0 win over the Bulldogs in five innings. Sophomore Emeline Curaming allowed three hits and struck out seven over five innings to get the win. The Lions scored three times in the first inning and added four in the second. They closed out the game with three runs in the fifth. Halli Heys had a three-run triple and scored two runs. Addy Ellis drove in two runs. Heys, Maddy Lahey and Addi Andrehsen scored two runs each. Macey Morgan, Kate Nilsen and Reagan Ritter had hits for the Bulldogs. ... La Grande reached double digits for the 20th time this season, scoring in all four offensive innings on the way to an 11-1 win over Cottage Grove. La Grande is 25-2 this season with both losses coming to Greater Oregon League rival Pendleton. The Tigers have also beaten Pendleton twice. Pitcher Carlee Strand gave up two hits and struck out 12 batters in five innings Tuesday, and also hit a three-run home run in the third inning. Paige Allen, Joselyn Dodds and Cassidy Hogge each had two RBIs, with Allen bashing a home run. Cottage Grove pitcher Emily Pacheco hit a solo home run and had both hits for the Lions. ...
Astoria scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning — the last coming on a passed ball — and the No. 3 Fisherman escaped with a 4-3 win over The Dalles. Hailey Svensen and Maddie Wilkin had RBI singles in the seventh to tie the game. Wilkin pitched all seven innings for the Fishermen, allowing four hits and striking out five. Bryce Newby hit a two-run inside-the-park home run for The Dalles to break a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning. ... No. 4 Cascade lost for just the third time this season in a 9-7 upset against Marist Catholic. Cascade, which led 4A with 330 runs in 27 games, had beaten the Spartans twice earlier in the season. Marist Catholic scored runs in five consecutive innings Tuesday, starting in the second inning. Eight of the Spartans’ nine starters registered at least one RBI. Sophia Lydon led the way, going 3-for-3 with two doubles. Blakely Hauck went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. The Spartans knocked out 14 hits and led by four in the sixth inning before the Cougars closed within two heading into the seventh. Pitcher Arabella Martinez retired Cascade in order in the seventh to finish out the complete-game win. Maria Scanlan went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Cascade. Taylor Bays was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. ...
Reigning state champion Pendleton won its 10th straight game Tuesday, breaking a scoreless game open with five runs in the fifth and sixth inning to beat Sweet Home 10-0. Pitcher Kendall Murphy threw a six-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts, and also went 2-for-4 on offense with a home run and three RBIs for the fifth-seeded Buckaroos. Maryn Broker was 4-for-4 at the plate and Josie Jenness, Ella Sams and Finley Evans drove in two runs each. Sweet Home pitcher Katriana Harris held the Buckaroos off the board for four innings. Errors hurt the No. 12 Huskies, with eight of the 10 runs they allowed being unearned. ... Layliana Segura’s walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Henley a 6-5 win over Stayton. Anna Harper hit two home runs for the Hornets, who led 3-0 in the first inning but saw Stayton score a run in four straight innings to lead 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth. Harper’s homer then tied the game, and Natalie Hudson put Henley ahead with a sacrifice fly. Stayton tied the game in the top of the seventh, but the Hornets got the final say in the end. Kenzie Schacher hit a home run for Stayton, while Mylie Walker and Madison Schacher each had two hits. ...
Freshman pitcher Elly Casey took a perfect game into the sixth inning and led No. 10 Scappoose to a 5-2 win over Gladstone. Casey ended up allowing two hits and one walk while striking out 13. Ava Vetsch had two of the five hits for the Indians, who slowly built a 5-0 lead over the first six innings. Sophia Bloyd went 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored. Gabriella Gunderson had a two-run double for Gladstone’s only runs. Gladiators pitcher Ashlynne Franssen recorded 14 strikeouts. ... Lily Buendia mashed a pair of three-run homers as host Junction City edged past Hidden Valley 8-6 in the 8 vs. 9 game. Buendia’s first home run tied the game 3-3 in the first inning, then her second in the fourth inning gave the Tigers an 8-4 advantage. Bebe Dussel had two hits for Junction City, with Opehlia Johnson chipping in with an RBI. Bailey Sandquist went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Mustangs. Mady Knable also homered for Hidden Valley.
