WILSONVILLE (Oct. 31, 2025) – The Classification and Districting Committee for the 2026-30 four-year time block has narrowed its focus to a six-classification approach. A full update from the committee can be found here.

The committee has also added a public meeting on Monday, Dec. 1, at the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) office in Wilsonville to offer the membership an additional feedback opportunity.

A new draft (Draft #7) of the committee’s proposed classification cut-off points and league alignments is available for review. Information on how to submit written correspondence or provide public testimony is available here.

After four public meetings and hundreds of written correspondences and public testimony, the committee has seen more support from the Association’s membership for a six-classification structure. This feedback includes written correspondence, public testimony, and feedback from the Delegate Assembly and Oregon Athletic Directors Association (OADA) League Reps.

The vote to narrow the committee’s focus to a six-classification system was unanimous among the committee’s 15 voting members.

Included in Draft #7 is a proposal for hybrid leagues. Based on correspondence and testimony of schools in favor of a five-classification proposal which addressed travel issues, the committee felt hybrid leagues could address several regions in Oregon which have a lack of schools and travel issues. Committee members believe hybrid leagues offer a creative scheduling solution, but schools in those leagues were not required to schedule contests against every member of its league.

Junction City athletic director, Bart Rothenberger, submitted a six-classification proposal to the committee, which elicited feedback from the membership. Rothenberger’s proposal is included in a section of public proposals for the public to review.

A reoccurring comment from public testimony and written correspondence has been in regard to how ADM is calculated. The Classification and Districting Committee plans to recommend the OSAA Executive Board convene a task force to explore potential changes to the calculation of ADM.

The Classification and Districting committee has remaining meetings on Nov. 17 and Dec. 1. The committee will forward its final recommendation to the OSAA Executive Board and Delegate Assembly for action at their Dec. 15 meetings.
