Junior wing Ryan Hague scored 20 points to lift No. 1 Seaside over No. 2 Banks 60-51 in a key 4A Cowapa League boys basketball game Tuesday night.
It was the 13th consecutive victory for the Seagulls (16-2, 4-0), who took over first place. Banks (18-2, 3-1), which had its 18-game winning streak snapped, slips one game behind Seaside.
The two-time reigning state champion Seagulls led 37-35 at half on a half-court buzzer-beater by senior guard Chase Januik. Seaside put away the game in the fourth quarter with tight defense and free throws down the stretch.
Januik added 14 points for the Seagulls. Senior guard Dakota Bunn and junior wing Jacob Slifka had 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Banks.
The teams meet again Feb. 14 in the regular season finale at Banks.
Central Catholic 73, Barlow 71 (2 OT): The No. 5 Rams rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half to beat the No. 7 Bruins in double overtime. The win gives Central Catholic (13-5, 8-0) a two-game lead over Barlow (12-6, 6-2) at the top of the 6A Mt. Hood Conference.
Rams sophomore Darius Gakwasi hit a tying three-pointer to force the second overtime. Central Catholic jumped to a five-point lead in the second overtime and held on, surviving a three-point attempt at the buzzer by Barlow junior Jesse White.
Gakwasi scored 24 points and junior DeRay Seamster added 20 points for the Rams. White had 31 points and junior Evan Inglesby had 18 points for the Bruins.
Silverton 54, Central 43: Drake Ulven scored 14 points and Jonah Downey had 13 points and five assists as the Foxes beat the Panthers in a 5A Mid-Willamette Conference game. David Gonzales had 12 points and Levi Nielsen had nine points and 16 rebounds for Silverton (16-2, 9-1).
Trinity Lutheran 64, Central Christian 36: Cash Niemeyer made 9 of 12 shots and finished with 22 points and Matt Eidler had 22 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals for Trinity Lutheran in the 1A Mountain Valley League game. Jace Mills scored 14 points for Central Christian.
