No. 2 seed Wilsonville used a dominant third quarter to propel itself to a 72-31 win over visiting Crescent Valley in 5A boys basketball playoff round of 16 on Friday night.
The Wildcats led by seven points at half before blitzing the Raiders 31-3 in the third quarter to open a 59-24 lead. Wilsonville advances to the eight-team state tournament next week in Corvallis.
Senior point guard Jack Roche had 19 points, 11 assists and five steals and junior post Keegan Shivers had 16 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots.
Wilsonville also got 12 points and eight rebounds from junior post Dakota Reber and 11 points from junior wing Gabe Reichle. The Wildcats had eight three-pointers and shot 55.6 percent (30 for 54).
Junior wing Wes Raab had 11 points for No. 15 seed Crescent Valley. The Raiders shot 33.3 percent (14 for 42), including 1 for 11 from three-point range.
Crater 67, Putnam 42: The host Comets got a big game from 6-10 sophomore Nate Bittle, who put up 26 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocked shots.
Hunter Chubb had 11 points and Kruger Edwards added 10 points for Crater, which held the Kingsmen to 4-for-24 shooting in the first half to open a 31-12 lead.
Ruben Onishchenko scored 23 points for Putnam.
Churchill 100, The Dalles 54: The top-seeded Lancers tuned up for the state tournament with an offensive explosion against The Dalles.
Brian Goracke scored a season-high 32 points and Kaelan O’Neil and Isaiah Wallace had 21 points each for Churchill, which shot 54.5 percent and had 27 assists on 36 field goals. Churchill made eight three-pointers in a 37-point third quarter.
The Lancers finished with 19 steals and forced 26 turnovers.
Goracke, a transfer from Monroe, made 13 of 17 shots, including 4 of 7 from three-point range. He also had six steals.
Josh Nisbet made six three-pointers and scored 20 points for The Dalles.
Pendleton 74, Parkrose 73 (OT): Tyler Newsom scored 41 points as the Buckaroos emerged with the road win over the Broncos.
In overtime, Redmond O’Hanlon made a layup to put Pendleton ahead 74-70. Parkrose came back with a three-pointer by Demontae Burns with three seconds left, but time ran out on the Broncos.
La Salle Prep 63, Hood River Valley 49: The Falcons outscored the Eagles 21-6 in the second quarter to build a 31-20 halftime lead on their way to the road win.
Jace Norton scored 22 points and Justin North had 20 points for La Salle Prep. Carson Flores and Noah Webster had 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Hood River Valley, which played its first playoff game since 1994.
Willamette 56, Central 34: Owen Cross scored 18 points and Luke Burke added 13 points for the Wolverines, who took control of the game by outscoring the Panthers 20-4 in the second quarter. Kaleb Kantola had 14 points for Central.
