CENTRAL POINT -- Visiting Wilsonville rolled to a 53-20 win over Crater in the Class 5A nonleague football opener for both teams Friday.
After spotting Crater a 7-0 lead on a Gavin Acrey touchdown run, the Wildcats, ranked No. 2 in the OSAAtoday preseason coaches poll, took control.
Wildcats quarterback Nathan Overholt found receiver Isaiah Haqq streaking down the field for a 40-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-6.
On the next Wilsonville drive, Overholt completed a short dump pass to Trevor Antonson, who juked his way down the field for a 30-yard touchdown. Overholt found Antonson for a two-point conversion pass and a 14-7 lead.
Wilsonville's Sam Westing caught a touchdown pass from Overholt, and followed it with a two-point conversion catch as the lead grew to 22-7 with nine minutes left in the second quarter.
The Wildcats' Zach Rivers recovered an onside kick and Kevin Burke had an interception, setting up two more Wilsonville touchdowns to make it 36-7 in the second quarter. Overholt threw another touchdown pass to extend the lead to 43-7 at half.
Overholt found Jonah Gomez for another score for a 50-7 edge in the third quarter.
Crater's Acrey returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. The Comets, ranked ninth, added an 80-yard touchdown run by reserve quarterback Blake Eaton.
Wilsonville plays host to No. 1 Churchill in Week 2.
