A look at Tuesday’s first-round 5A and 4A playoff baseball games in the OSAA / OnPoint Community Credit Union State Championships. We will update this story as results roll in.

5A

No. 1 Wilsonville 9, No. 16 Churchill 2 -- Mark Wiepert was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and younger brother Ben Wiepert went 2-for-2 with an RBI in the win, which was highlighted by outfielders Luke Carli and Connor Johnston throwing out runners at the plate in the first inning. Colby Kosderka got through the first and went five for the Wildcats, yielding just two earned runs while striking out five. Blake Mikel drove in both runs for Churchill.

No. 8 Corvallis 7, No. 9 Bend 4 -- Andrew Street earned the win and Roy Bannister got the save and Spartans pitchers did a good job of minimizing damage when Bend threatened to put up crooked numbers. Offensively, Street had a three-run double in the first, Gavin Price drove in two with a double in the second and Axel Prechel had a solo homer in the fourth. Blaise Neil had two hits in three at bats and drove in a run.

No. 5 Summit 3, No. 12 Hood River Valley 0 – Riley Via hit a two-out double that put the Storm up 2-0. Alex Via was strong on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings for the victors, fanning seven while walking zero. Kingston McAdam had two doubles in the loss for Hood River.

No. 13 Dallas 11, No. 4 Ridgeview 10 – Dallas rallied from down 5-1 in the second to stun the fourth-seeded Ravens. The Dragons knotted the score at 5-5 in the fourth on an Eli Hess RBI single, only to see Ridgeview reclaim the lead in the bottom of the frame on a two-run homer from Eli Lopez, who previously had an RBI triple. A double by Eli Sledge plated three as part of a five-run Dallas sixth that put the Dragons on top again, 10-9. After Ridgeview tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a Dallas error, a Graysen Gardner double put the Dragons ahead once more in the top of the seventh and Jack Strange made it stand up. He tossed the final 2.1 innings, giving up zero earned runs, to get the win.

No. 3 Canby 7, No. 14 North Eugene 0 -- Colby Herren was 2 for-4 and his first-inning triple plated two runs. That was more than enough for Jack Brauckmiller and Jersey Castaneda, who combined to shut out a young, but talented, Highlander squad.

No. 6 La Salle Prep 4, No. 11 Silverton 3 – Max Bishop threw a complete game for the Falcons, Evan Hamlin had a game-tying homer with two outs in the sixth and Torsten Hersom had three hits, including one in the seventh to set the table for Roscoe Mithoefer’s walk-off double. 

No. 10 West Albany 5, No. 7 Crater 4 -- Crater had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the seventh down by two runs, but could only push one across and lined out to center for the final out in the home loss to West Albany. Lucas Klein's double in the fourth for West Albany broke a 2-2 tie. Kaden Martirano had two hits to lead the offense. Rylan Mathiesen went 5.2 innings, giving up just one earned run, to get the win.

No. 2 Thurston 6, No. 15 Putnam 1 – Grady Saunders went six innings on the mound, striking out 11, and Brock Johnson and Cam Nosack sparked the offense with four hits combined, including three for extra bases, and three RBIs, for the two-time defending champions in the home win. Calvin Booth drove in the lone run for Putnam with a single.

4A

No. 1 Marist Catholic 5, No. 16 North Marion / Gervais 4 -- Grady Hazen was 2-for-3 with a double, Cash Andrus added two hits, Tanner Mullens had a two-run triple and Marist got homers from both Gianni Lombardi and Raith Huffman in the win. Niko Leyba got the win for the Spartans and Huffman quelled a seventh-inning threat from the Huskies to help Marist escape with the win.

No. 8 Molalla 5, No. 9 Hidden Valley / New Hope Christian 4 -- Molalla scored four times in the bottom of the fifth, capped by a Dillon Shultz RBI single, to turn around a 3-1 deficit. Gunnar Johnson launched a solo homer to cut the deficit to just one, but Kyler Dickerson, on in relief of starter Camdyn Morey, slammed the door with back-to-back strike outs to save the game. Morey pitched into the seventh inning, yielding just two earned runs, and hit two doubles at the plate to help the host team win.

No. 5 Henley 12, No. 12 La Grande 2 (6 innings) -- Mark Carpenter went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and four RBIs and struck out seven in three hitless innings for the host Hornets.

No. 4 Newport 4, No. 13 Gladstone 0 -- Ryder Hoeckma went 6.2 innings for the Cubs, striking out nine, and the well-balanced offense did just enough in the home win.

No. 3 Scappoose 4, No. 14 Stayton 1 – The two-time defending 4A champions got their title defense off to a good start, coming from down 1-0 after 3 1/2 innings to win at home. Myles Emmert’s big hit staked Stayton to that early lead, but Riley DuBois answered in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out, two-run bomb to put Scappoose on top for good. Will Kessi earned the win for the defending champs in relief of Brandon Neilson, who was lights out for four innings. Joe Fagan got the save.

No. 6 Philomath 2, No. 11 Tillamook 0 – Caleb Babcock threw a one-hit shutout with 12 strike outs for Philomath. Rocco De La Rosa scored both runs and Grant Niemann had an RBI single.

No. 7 Pendleton / Nixyaawii 8, No. 10 North Bend 0 -- Evan Lehnert tossed five scoreless innings, fanning nine, and Jake Neistadt had a two-run homer in the fifth as part of a 12-hit Buckaroo attack. Pendleton scored in the first on a Vance Nelson double and added another tally in the second on the first of Tugg McQuinn's two hits. Lehnert and Colin Harrington also had two hits for the victors. North Bend was held to just three hits in the loss.

No. 2 Junction City 8, No. 15 The Dalles / Dufur 3  -- Jayden Lucas struck out 12 over 5.2 innings for the Tigers. He yielded just one earned run to take the win. Josh Berry had two hits and Landon Van Hecke had a two-run single to spark the offense. Finley Corbin homered in the loss for the Riverhawks.
