Rankings Freeze and Play-In Dates Summary

4A Baseball

16-team OSAA bracket

  1. Automatic QualifiersTwelve teams automatically qualify for the OSAA's 16-team bracket based on regular season and/or district tournament play on or before Monday, May 19. Each league determines how they will select their allotted playoff spots.

    Cowapa – 2; Tri-Valley – 2; Oregon West - 2; Sky Em – 2; Skyline - 2; Greater Oregon – 2

      Cowapa - Scappoose, Tillamook
      Tri-Valley - Molalla, The Dalles/Dufur
      Oregon West - Newport, Philomath
      Sky Em - Marist Catholic, Junction City
      Skyline - Henley, Hidden Valley/New Hope Christian
      Greater Oregon - Pendleton, La Grande

  2. Rankings Freeze Date – The rankings will freeze at 10pm on Monday, May 19.

  3. Play-In ModelEight teams will qualify as Play-In teams based on the following criteria.

    1. Each leagues #3 seed, along with the next two highest ranked teams not already an automatic qualifier or the #3 team in each league will qualify for the play-in contest.

      1. Cowapa - St. Helens
        Tri-Valley - Gladstone
        Oregon West - Stayton
        Sky Em - Marshfield
        Skyline - Phoenix
        Greater Oregon - Baker/Powder Valley

      Highest ranked teams not already qualified

        At-Large - North Bend
        At-Large - North Marion

    2. Once the eights teams have been determined for the play-in contests, the OADA 4A League Reps will place the teams into four contests based on their Rankings.

        1. The four highest ranked teams will host a play-in contest.

        2. The four lowest ranked teams will be placed into the play-in contests based on mileage.

        3. The six OADA 4A League Reps will meet the morning after the Rankings freeze to determine the match-ups.
          a. League match-ups would be avoided similar to the first round of the OSAA playoffs when possible.
          b. In determining the match-ups, the team with the furthest travel would be priority #1.
          c. After the furthest travel match-up has been determined, the three remaining teams will be matched up based on distance of those schools with the three host schools to decrease the travel costs for the visiting schools.

    3. The OADA 4A League Reps will meet the match-ups to the qualifying schools and notify the OSAA so the contests can be posted on the OSAA playoff qualification page.

    4. Match-ups

        8 @ 1 - Phoenix @ North Bend
        7 @ 2 - North Marion @ St. Helens
        6 @ 3 - Baker/Powder Valey @ Gladstone
        5 @ 4 - Marshfield @ Stayton

    5. OSAA's same league matchup policy will be utilized in determining opponents for play-in contests. Winners advance to the OSAA 16-team bracket.

  4. Rankings – Once the 16 qualifying teams are determined, they will be placed on the OSAA bracket according to OSAA Executive Board Policy "State Championships – Rankings".
